Riverfront / Downtown planning and Design Center

Although the community’s initial attempt to return to the river was impressive and wildly successful, it did not actually achieve the goal of engaging the River. Around the turn of the century, students revisited the waterfront district with projects that remained true to the goal of reaching the river while respecting the new reality of a successful riverfront district.

In 2001, under the leadership of Mayor Bob Corker, work began to complete the connection. The Design Studio played a critical role in defining the vision, and planning the development and implementation of the 21st Century Waterfront Plan.
